This was part of a Graduate Assignment for a UNT course.
Tools Used & Technical Knowledge Needed: MadCap Flare (to create single source authoring), HTML5 (created from print PDFs), CSS (used for print and web styling).
Audience & Purpose: The Company that created Zen4 servers was tired of inaccuracies in print because the information had to be manually updated in multiple locations. The Company also aimed to establish an online knowledge base, which it was lacking in this digital age. Our team was tasked with taking the two PDFs and creating a proof-of-concept that would:
- Allow content to only need to be updated in one place
- Include a searchable online HTML site
- Still produce print PDFs
- Create consistent content
- Allow personalization of print content
We were given three weeks to accomplish these goals using MadCap Flare, with only the original hardware and software manuals to work at our disposal. Additional Note: This scenario was created by Dr. Lam and the graduate department at UNT to be completed as part of graduate work for Course TECM 5191.
Original PDF: The screenshot below is what the content looked like in the original PDF.

PDF Result: The following presents the revised and restructured content, skillfully crafted to better resonate with the target audience by implementing Jorsek’s fundamental principles. Additional note: Although we learned and applied master CSS changes to the final PDFs and HTML5 site, we were told to only make one change to each to satisfy the project parameters given the timeframe.

HTML5 Result: The video below is a brief clip showcasing the online HTML5 site generated solely from the two printed PDFs using Madcap Flare.
